Insomnia

1. Insomnia is the feeling of not having enough sleep. This can be related to not being able to sleep easily.
2. There may be a number of factors that contribute to a person’s insomnia. Stress, anxiety and other emotions may play a part, as environmental factors such as noise or an uncomfortable bed. Jet lag, shift work, excess alcohol or too much caffeine can cause sleep deprivation.
3. Physical causes include asthma and indigestion, as well as some of the other sleep disorders. If a cause can be found then the problem may be easy to remedy — buying a new, comfortable bed for example.
4. Developing a good sleep regime by going to bed at a regular time, avoiding late meals, too much caffeine and alcohol and having relaxing moments before bedtime, by taking a warm bath or listening to calm music for example, can help.
5. Some people think of medications to promote sleep. Various medicines are available to buy at pharmacies, but you must take care for them not to cause drowsiness in the daytime and interfere with activities such as driving or working with dangerous machinery.
